Behold, this is the last post about my gluten-free Nashville adventure.
So we were totally stuffed from that gluten-free grilled provolone at Holland House in Nashville (link), but somehow we made room and ventured on to eat more food. (Fat kids at heart). For dinner, we went to Burger Up in the 12 South Neighborhood.
We zipped right in there without having to wait and were seated at long picnic benches….like a hipster Harry Potter table.
As the name suggests, I “burgered up” and had an awesome gluten-free burger. I ordered the Mushroom Swiss burger, with sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, swiss, lettuce and a truffle aioli. Omg. Aioli, you slay me. The meat was flavorful and juicy. The bun was average – as many gluten-free buns go, it was on the dry side. Tasted a little bit like an Udi’s bun. Per usual dry bun protocol, I removed one half of it and just ate it open-face. Ken wasn’t hugely impressed with his turkey burger…it seems the magic lies in the straight-up red meat burger.
I know the question that has been on your mind…are the fries gluten-free? Sorry, friends, they are not gluten-free (they are cooked in a shared fryer). However, they had a lovely side salad of mixed greens, mozzarella balls, fresh tomatoes and a delightful vinaigrette that was gluten free. (Note, you have to pay extra for the salad). You’ll also pay an extra $2 for the bun. Somehow, my meal alone ended up being $20…not too cheap for a burger joint. However, sometimes for g-freeness, you have to pay extra, and this ended up being a solid gluten-free find. I’d definitely recommend it!
